The 78th Frasers joined the brethern of the Olde 78th Fraser Highlanders - Victoria Garrison quartered at Victoria,within the former Colony of Vancouver Island at the BC Highland Games' 162nd edition held at Topaz Park. The BC Highland Games are proudly the longest running Highland Games in North America. The BC Highland Games featured Scottish culture, traditional Highland Dancing, sport including caber and hammer throws, and the rich music of drum and bagpipe. The 78th Fraser Highlanders moved our regimental materiel led by our President / OiC Maj. James Barrett to the games to fire our cannon, and provide demonstration of our Brown Bess muskets. The Regiment also provided illustrated history with narrated historical notes and replicas of arnment used in battle for King and Country. The Fort Fraser 78th Fraser Highlanders will be front and centre at the Coquitlam Scot Fest held June 20th and 21st at Town Centre Park, Coquitlam. Come see us!
The 78th Frasers mustered at the Royal New Westminster Curling Club for the occasion of paying homage and commemoration of the auld Scottish Baird Rabbie Burns (25 January 1759 -21 July 1796) A poet and lyricist, he is best known for "Auld Lang Syne" The haggis was piped in carried by Officers of the Regiment only to meet his demise after being mercifully knifed. His timely death was consolated with the Address to the Haggis. The festive occaison of Scottish culture, heritage and commemorative dinner concluded with the Lament piped by Lt. McIllwaine
The 78th Frasers mustered for a dinner at Bessborough Armoury on the evening of 1 December for the annual St Andeew's Dinner. The evening was in commemoration of St Andrew, the patron saint of Scotland. St Andrew's Day 30 November is in Scotland Latha Naomh Anndra - St Andrew's Day a national holiday in Scotland. It is also Scotland's nation flag day, celebrating the Scottish flag the Scottish Saltaire, bratach na h-Alba. St Andrew's Day dates back to 1058 during the reign of King of Scotland Malcom III (1058-1093). The Fort Fraser Garrison mustered for dinner in the Officer's Mess at Bessbourgh Armoury on 28 September. The evening commemorated the Battle of Plains Abraham (13 Sedpt 1769) which involved the British led by General James Wolf against the French column led by Louis Montcalm. The axctual battle lasted an hour but was a pivotal one during the Seven Year's War. General Wolf was killed in battle . With Wolfe dead and several other key officers injured, British troops fell into a disorganised pursuit of the retreating French troops. The 78th Fraser Highlanders were ordered by Brigadier-General James Murray to pursue the French with their swords, but were met near the city by a heavy fire from a floating battery covering the bridge over the St. Charles River as well as militia that remained in the trees.Later, The 78th took the highest number of casualties of all British units in the battle.Later The French capitulated on 8 September, and the British took possession of Montreal. The "Fort Fraser Garrison " is constituted as a military historical society, dedicated to preserving the memory and story of the Regiment, and "The 78th Fraser Highlanders Association of Vancouver" operates as a duly registered charitable organisation supporting youth in British Columbia

Kidsafe Vancouver
When school is out, Kidsafe is in! Kidsafe provides vulnerable children with the safety, supervision, nutritious meals and educational programming they need and deserve but lack access to due to their challenging life circumstances. The 78th Fraser Highlanders are very proud to support KidSafe and their work to provide a place while school is out for Vancouver children. 		Heritage Fairs (Vancouver) Fraser Highlander Mark Dwor giving our cheque to the Vancouver Heritage Fairs for $600. The Fair encourage students in Vancouver schools to take an interest in Canadian history in Vancouver Heritage Fairs where Grade 7 students in Vancouver are inspired to study and write about Canadian history. The students then create presentations and projects similar to a school science fair. The presentation and project highlights their chosen aspect of Canadian history or culture and present their project to their classmates, parents and community.
Congratulations to the essay winners of the 78th Fraser Highlanders' Prize for Scottish-Canadian History"! Ms Julia Gabriel won 1st place for her essay "Why not go to Hudson's Bay Country" with Mr. Keith Wise winning 2nd place for his essay "Race in the Atlantic World:Scottish Enlightment Views On Race and their Influence at Home and Abroad". The competition was open to students of SFU HIS 448 overseen by Director of SFU Scottish Studies Dr. Katie McCullough. PhD. St. John Ambulance Cadet Corps (New Westminster) The Fraser Highlanders donated $300 to the St. John Ambulance Cadet Corps in New Westminster. to help fund uniforms and training for the St. John Ambulance Cadet Corps this month. The Fraser Highlanders Adjutant joined Hon. Col. Westminster Rgmt Karen Baker-McGrotty of the Westminster Reg’t with members of the St. John Cadet Corps. First established in Quebec 1884, St John Ambulance provides Health and safety training and volunteer community services
